Moissanite Chain Buying Guide: Styles, Sizes and What to Check
To choose a moissanite chain, pick the style first, then the width, then the length. For a first chain, a 3mm to 5mm moissanite tennis chain at 20 or 22 inches is the safest buy: it goes with almost everything and costs less than wider styles. Before you pay, check the stone grade, the grading report, the metal, the clasp and the settings.
This moissanite chain buying guide covers the five styles we sell, what width and length to get, what to check before you buy, basic care, and what our best sellers cost today. Where it helps, we've used our own order data.
Key takeaways
- Start with the style. A tennis chain, one row of stones, is the most versatile. Cuban and Monaco links are heavier statement pieces.
- Width sets the look: 3mm is subtle, 5mm to 6mm is noticeable, and 10mm or wider is a statement.
- Most people wear 20 or 22 inches. Measure your neck and add 2 to 4 inches.
- Check for D color VVS1 moissanite, a GRA report you can look up, the metal exactly as the Material line states it, a locking clasp, and level, evenly spaced stones.
- As of October 13, 2026, the chains we recommend below cost $349.99 to $799.99. Width and style drive the price. Length adds only $20 to $70.
- Moissanite pieces are final sale at Adamans, so settle your size first. The lifetime warranty still covers clasps, settings, loose stones and the finish.
What is a moissanite chain?
A moissanite chain is a chain set with moissanite, a gemstone made of silicon carbide. All jewelry moissanite is grown in a lab, so no mining is involved. It isn't a diamond, but it looks very close to one. It's nearly as hard, 9.25 on the Mohs scale against diamond's 10. It has more colored sparkle, with a dispersion of about 0.104 against diamond's 0.044. And it passes a standard heat-based diamond tester. Our guide is moissanite a real diamond? covers the stone in full.
Not every iced chain is moissanite. We also sell a cheaper cubic zirconia line that looks similar in photos but won't pass a diamond tester and has no GRA report. On our site, if a product title says Moissanite, it's moissanite.
Moissanite chain styles: which one should you get?
We sell five main styles. Here's how they compare.
| Style | What it looks like | Our widths | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tennis chain | One row of round stones, each in its own setting | 1.5mm (micro) to 6mm | A first chain, daily wear, layering | Prongs can catch on knitwear |
| Clustered tennis chain | Each link is a large center stone ringed by small stones | 8mm (micro) and 10mm | Lots of sparkle that still drapes like a tennis chain | Wide and bright, so hard to wear low-key |
| Baguette tennis chain | Rectangular baguette stones side by side, framed by small round stones | 6mm | A cleaner, geometric look | Less sparkle than round stones |
| Cuban link | Interlocking links that lie flat, with stones across each link | 8mm to 23mm | A heavier, bolder chain worn alone | Heavier on the neck than a tennis chain |
| Monaco | Angular interlocking links, fully set with stones | 10mm to 20mm | A big statement | A lot of chain for everyday wear |
Tennis chain
One continuous row of same-size stones, each in its own setting, so it drapes and moves with you. It works with a T-shirt or a shirt, alone or layered, and thinner widths can carry a small pendant.
Clustered tennis chain
Each link is a large round center stone ringed by smaller stones, so from a few feet away it reads as one big stone. Our 10mm clustered chain is our best seller. It's a statement piece, not one to tuck under a shirt.
Baguette tennis chain
Each link of our 6mm baguette chain holds several rectangular, step-cut stones, framed by small round ones. Step cuts have long, straight facets, so they look clean and sleek and sparkle less than round stones. That's what sets it apart from the usual tennis chain.
Cuban link chain
Interlocking oval links that lie flat. An iced Cuban adds stones across the face of each link. It's heavier and bolder than a tennis chain and usually worn alone. Ours are hand-set.
Monaco chain
Angular, interlocking links with stones across every visible surface, so it reads as one solid band of ice. It works best worn alone.
Moissanite tennis chain vs Cuban link: which is better?
Neither is better. They do different jobs.
- Choose a tennis chain if it's your first chain, you'll wear it daily, you want to layer, or you might add a pendant. It's lighter and more flexible.
- Choose a Cuban link if you want a heavier, bolder chain to wear alone, or as the heavier half of a layered pair.
Price won't decide it. As of October 13, 2026, our 5mm tennis chain costs $449.99 to $469.99 and our 13mm Cuban chain costs $489.99 to $549.99. If you layer, keep about 2 inches between lengths, such as 20 and 22 inches, so the chains don't tangle.
What size moissanite chain should you get?
Size means two numbers. Width, in millimeters, decides how loud the chain looks. Length, in inches, decides where it sits. Our tennis chain size guide goes deeper.
What width tennis chain should you get?
| Width | How it looks | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5mm (micro) | Fine and delicate | Layering, a small pendant, a women's necklace |
| 3mm | Subtle | Everyday wear, layering, slimmer builds |
| 5mm | Clearly visible without being loud | A first chain; the all-rounder |
| 6mm | Bold; each stone stands out | Wearing alone, broader necks |
| 10mm clustered | Statement; each link reads as one big stone | Wearing alone, nights out |
| 13mm and wider (Cuban, Monaco) | Heavy statement | Wearing alone |
Unsure? Get 5mm. Then match the width to your build: a 3mm chain can look lost on a broad neck, and a 10mm one can swamp a slim one.
What length moissanite chain should you get?
| Length | Where it sits | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 18 inches (45 cm) | Close to the base of the neck | Slimmer necks, thin chains, the top chain in a layered pair |
| 20 inches (50 cm) | On the collarbone | Most people; the safest single choice |
| 22 inches (55 cm) | On the upper chest | Broader builds, wider chains, pendants |
| 24 inches (60 cm) | Lower on the chest | Bigger pendants, the lower chain in a layered pair |
To find your length, measure around the base of your neck with a soft tape. Add 2 inches for a close fit or up to 4 inches for a looser one. Wearing a pendant? Go a size longer, usually 22 or 24 inches, so it sits on your chest rather than at your throat.
Our orders show people tend to wear thinner chains shorter: 18 inches is the most popular length for our 3mm tennis chain, 20 inches for the 5mm and 22 inches for the 6mm. Across our chains, 20 and 22 inches are the most popular lengths.
Measure before you order: moissanite pieces are final sale at Adamans, so we can't take a chain back for the wrong length. Check your size with a tape measure or a chain you already own.
What to check before you buy a moissanite chain
Most chains look good in photos. Check these before you pay.
- The stone grade. Look for D color, the most colorless grade on the D-to-Z scale, and VVS1 clarity, where inclusions are very hard to see even at 10x magnification. All the chains in this guide are set with D color VVS1 moissanite. Be wary of vague clarity ranges or no grade at all.
- A report you can check. Much moissanite, ours included, is graded by GRA rather than the big diamond labs. A real report lists the stone's size, color and clarity and has a number you can look up. Every moissanite piece we sell ships with a GRA report. Here's how to spot a fake GRA report.
- A diamond tester. Moissanite conducts heat almost as well as diamond, so it passes a standard heat-based tester, and ours do. A multi-tester that also checks electrical conductivity will flag it as moissanite. That's expected, not a sign of a fake.
- The metal, word for word. Read the Material line, not just the title, because "Silver" in a title often means the color. Plating is a thin layer of gold over another metal. Vermeil is gold over sterling silver, and the FTC's Jewelry Guides say the gold should be at least 10K and 2.5 microns thick. Our silver-finish moissanite chains list 18K white gold plating.
- The clasp. Tennis chains usually close with a box clasp, often with a side safety latch. Find it in the product photos, and check it clicks shut firmly when your chain arrives.
- The settings. Zoom into the close-ups. Stones should sit level and evenly spaced, with no gaps. Tennis chains hold each stone with metal prongs. Iced Cuban and Monaco links are paved with many small stones, each held by tiny prongs or beads of metal.
- Returns and warranty. Our moissanite pieces are final sale, and every piece comes with a lifetime warranty. It covers faulty clasps, links and settings, breakage in normal wear, fading or tarnishing of the finish, and loose or lost stones. Loss, theft and damage from chemicals such as chlorine aren't covered.
Best moissanite chains and what they cost
These are the chains we'd point most people to, one per style, at live prices as of October 13, 2026. Each is D color VVS1 moissanite with a GRA report and lists 18K white gold plating on its Material line.
| Chain | Best for | Lengths | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3mm Moissanite Tennis Chain | A subtle everyday chain, layering | 16 to 24 inches | $349.99 to $386.99 |
| 5mm Moissanite Tennis Chain | A first chain; the all-rounder | 18 to 24 inches | $449.99 to $469.99 |
| 6mm Moissanite Baguette Tennis Chain | A different, geometric look | 18 to 22 inches | $499.99 to $569.99 |
| 13mm Moissanite Cuban Chain | A heavier link chain to wear alone | 18 to 24 inches | $489.99 to $549.99 |
| 10mm Moissanite Clustered Tennis Chain | A statement chain; our best seller | 18 to 24 inches | $769.99 to $799.99 |
Width and style drive the price: at 18 inches, these run from $359.99 for the 3mm to $769.99 for the 10mm clustered. Length barely moves it, adding $20 to $70 from the shortest to the longest, so choose your length on fit. Every chain here is in our moissanite chains collection, along with our Monaco chains and gold-finish versions of several styles.
One honest caveat: moissanite has little resale value. Buy a chain to wear, not as an investment.
How to care for a moissanite chain
Moissanite won't cloud or change color. Skin oil, soap and lotion dull the stones, and chemicals and friction wear a plated finish. Four habits cover it:
- Clean it every few weeks with warm water, a few drops of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush, then rinse and pat dry.
- Take it off to swim, shower or work out. Chlorine, bleach and abrasive cleaners damage the finish, and that isn't covered by our warranty.
- Store it alone in a pouch or box so it doesn't tangle or scratch other pieces.
- Check the clasp and settings now and then, and contact us if a stone feels loose.

Moissanite chain buying guide: common questions
What size moissanite chain should I get?
For most people, 5mm at 20 or 22 inches. Go 3mm for a subtle look, or 6mm and wider for a bold one. For length, measure the base of your neck and add 2 to 4 inches.
What width tennis chain is best for men?
5mm is the all-rounder. 3mm suits a subtle look or layering, and 6mm suits wearing it alone or a broader neck.
Is a moissanite tennis chain or a Cuban link better?
Neither. A tennis chain is lighter, more flexible and easier to layer or wear every day. A Cuban link is heavier and bolder and is usually worn alone. For a first chain, start with a tennis chain.
Do moissanite chains pass a diamond tester?
Yes. Moissanite conducts heat almost as well as diamond, so it passes a standard heat-based diamond tester. A multi-tester that also checks electrical conductivity will identify it as moissanite.
Do moissanite chains tarnish or fade?
The stones don't cloud or change color. A plated finish can wear over time, especially with chlorine, bleach or friction. Our lifetime warranty covers fading or tarnishing of the finish.
Can you wear a moissanite chain every day?
Yes. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale, moissanite resists everyday scratches. Take it off to swim, shower or work out, and clean it every few weeks.
