GLD Reviews: Is The GLD Shop Legit? An Honest Look (2026)
Is GLD legit? Yes. GLD (The GLD Shop) is a real US jewelry brand that designs and ships from Miami, holds official NBA, NFL and MLB licenses, and had about 2,540 Trustpilot reviews averaging 4.4 stars in the 3 months to November 2, 2026. But most GLD chains are gold plated over stainless steel, not solid gold, so what you get depends on which material you pick.
We sell iced chains too, so read this GLD review with that in mind. Every GLD fact below comes from GLD's own product pages, blog, warranty, refund and shipping policies, or its Trustpilot profile, all read on November 2, 2026. Where GLD beats us, we say so.
Key takeaways
- GLD is a legitimate, established business. Its own blog says it started in a Pittsburgh basement, it now designs and ships from Miami, and it marked 12 years in October 2026.
- GLD sells three tiers: gold plated over a stainless steel core (most of the range), vermeil over 925 sterling silver, and solid 10k to 18k gold. Check the Material option before you buy.
- Recent reviews are strong and plentiful: about 2,540 Trustpilot reviews in the last 3 months, averaging 4.4, with about 11% at 1 star. GLD has far more recent reviews than we do.
- GLD's lifetime guarantee is a one-time replacement on non-custom plated and vermeil pieces, with a processing fee from $9.99 (plated) to $49.99 (moissanite).
- Free US shipping on GLD's Economy option takes 6 to 11 business days after 1 to 2 days of processing, according to its shipping policy.
- Like us, GLD doesn't take moissanite returns. Our 3mm moissanite tennis chain costs $368.99 at 20 inches vs $420 for GLD's 3mm vermeil one, as of November 2, 2026.
Is GLD legit? The short answer
Yes. GLD isn't a drop-shipping site that appeared last month. Its "Is GLD Legit?" blog post tells the story of a brand that started "From a basement in Pittsburgh" as founder Christian Johnston's project, and says "All products are designed and shipped from Miami, FL." In October 2026 GLD published a post called "12 Years of GLD," so it has been trading for more than a decade.
It also holds licenses that a fake store couldn't get. GLD's returns policy refers to "licensed league pieces (e.g. NFL, NBA, NCAA)," and its legit page lists official partnerships with the NBA, NFL, MLB and DC Comics. Its Trustpilot profile is claimed and on a paid subscription, and Trustpilot says GLD invites all customers to review, positive or negative.
So the question isn't really "is GLD a scam." It's "is GLD worth it for the piece you want," and that comes down to materials, warranty, shipping and returns.
GLD reviews: what customers said in the last 3 months
We don't quote all-time scores, because they mix in years-old orders. We compare Trustpilot reviews from the last 3 months, using Trustpilot's own "Last 3 months" filter with all languages. That's the closest thing to what ordering from each brand is like today.
| Trustpilot, last 3 months (to November 2, 2026) | GLD | Adamans |
|---|---|---|
| Reviews | About 2,540 | About 255 |
| Average rating | 4.4 | 4.5 |
| 5-star share | 78% | 80% |
| 4-star share | 6% (159 reviews) | 10% (25 reviews) |
| 1-star share | About 11% (about 270 reviews) | 7% (19 reviews) |
The averages are close. GLD's recent 1-star share is a few points higher than ours, and ours is a smaller sample. Where GLD clearly wins is volume and follow-up: about ten times as many recent reviews, and Trustpilot shows GLD "Replied to 99% of negative reviews," typically within 24 hours. That's a business that takes complaints seriously.
Trustpilot's own AI summary of recent GLD reviews highlights product quality, fast delivery and price, and calls experiences with orders "mixed." Check both brands yourself on GLD's Trustpilot page and ours, or read how ours break down in our own reviews write-up.
Is GLD real gold? The three material tiers
Some of it. GLD's own guide, "Is GLD Real Gold?", splits the range into three tiers. This is the part most GLD reviews skip, and it matters more than the brand name:
- Gold plated (most popular). A "Surgical grade stainless steel core" plated with gold. Most GLD chains sit here. GLD's 3mm Diamond Tennis Chain and 5mm Cuban Link Chain list their material as "14k White Gold Plated."
- Vermeil. A "solid .925 sterling silver base" with gold plating of "+2.5 microns," usually set with moissanite. 2.5 microns is the thickness the term vermeil generally implies in the US.
- Solid gold. "Crafted from solid 10k-18k gold throughout," with some styles set with natural or lab diamonds.
One small inconsistency to know about: GLD's guides describe its plating as 18k gold, while the product pages we checked list "14k White Gold Plated" and "14k White Gold Vermeil." If the karat matters to you, ask GLD before ordering.
So are GLD chains real or fake? They're real GLD products, but a plated chain is a steel chain with a thin gold layer, and it's priced like one. GLD's guide calls its plated pieces "real gold" because the surface is gold. That's a fair description of the surface, not of the chain. Our guide on how to tell if a chain is real gold shows how to check stamps, weight and magnets yourself.
Does GLD use real diamonds?
Only in the solid gold line. GLD's materials guide says CZ is "Used in many gold-plated pieces," moissanite is "Often used in GLD's vermeil jewelry," and natural or lab diamonds appear in "select solid gold pieces." Product names can mislead here: GLD's "Diamond Tennis Chain in White Gold- 3mm" is a 14k white gold plated chain, and its description only says "3mm round cut stones." The word "diamond" describes the style, not the stone.
GLD's moissanite pages use the same naming, for example "Men's Moissanite Diamond Tennis Chain." Those are moissanite stones, which is a different gem from diamond. CZ is softer than moissanite and won't pass a standard diamond tester.
GLD vs Adamans: tennis chain prices side by side
These are the prices shown on each brand's own product pages in US dollars at 20 inches, as of November 2, 2026. Codes and promotions change, so we've left them out.
| Chain (20") | Price | Material, as listed | Stones |
|---|---|---|---|
| GLD Diamond Tennis Chain, 3mm | $220 | 14k white gold plated (stainless steel core per GLD's guide) | "Round cut stones" (type not named) |
| GLD Moissanite Diamond Tennis Chain, Sterling Silver, 3mm | $420 | Sterling silver | Moissanite |
| GLD Men's Moissanite Diamond Tennis Chain, White Gold Vermeil, 3mm | $420 | 14k white gold vermeil | Moissanite |
| GLD Men's Moissanite Diamond Tennis Chain, White Gold Vermeil, 5mm | $1,250 | 14k vermeil, made to order (4 to 8 weeks) | Moissanite |
| Adamans Moissanite Micro Tennis Chain, 1.5mm | $259.99 | 18K white gold plating with PVD reinforcement | D color VVS1 moissanite, GRA report |
| Adamans 3mm Moissanite Tennis Chain | $368.99 | 18K white gold plating with PVD reinforcement | D color VVS1 moissanite, GRA report |
| Adamans 5mm Moissanite Tennis Chain | $454.99 | 18K white gold plating with PVD reinforcement | D color VVS1 moissanite, GRA report |
GLD is cheaper if you just want the look. Its $220 plated tennis chain costs less than any of our moissanite chains. If you want moissanite, the picture flips: our 3mm moissanite chain is $51 less than GLD's 3mm moissanite chains, and our 5mm is in stock at $454.99 while GLD's 5mm moissanite chain is made to order at $1,250.
The trade-off is the metal. GLD's moissanite chains sit on sterling silver or vermeil. Ours list "18K white gold plating" with PVD reinforcement as the material. If a precious-metal base matters most to you, GLD's vermeil and sterling options give you that. If you care most about the stones, ours are D color VVS1 moissanite with a GRA report, and they pass a standard diamond tester.
GLD warranty: what the lifetime guarantee covers
GLD's warranty page offers a "Lifetime Guarantee for all purchases of non-custom, Gold Plated/Vermeil jewelry." If a piece is damaged, fades or stops working under normal wear, you get "a one-time replacement." The details, from GLD's warranty page on November 2, 2026:
- Processing fees apply: $9.99 for gold plated, $29.99 for earrings and non-iced vermeil, $49.99 for moissanite, and $99.99 for solid gold, watches and custom pieces. Lost-stone repairs can cost more.
- Excluded from the lifetime guarantee: custom items, solid gold, watches, grillz and apparel.
- Custom pieces get a 30-day quality guarantee, then a $99 repair fee. Water damage voids custom repairs.
- Watches get a 1-year warranty, with a second year for $99.
Every Adamans piece comes with a lifetime warranty card. Under our policy, we repair or replace your piece for manufacturing defects, breakage during normal wear, fading, discoloration or tarnishing of the finish, and loose or lost stones. If the item is no longer stocked, we issue a gift card for what you paid. It doesn't cover loss, theft, deliberate damage, repairs by someone else, or damage from chemicals like chlorine and bleach.
The practical difference: GLD's guarantee is one replacement with a fee, and it excludes solid gold and custom. Our policy doesn't limit you to one replacement and doesn't list a claim fee.
GLD return policy: the fine print
GLD's refund policy allows returns "within 14 days of delivery" for a refund, exchange or store credit. Items must be unworn and in their original packaging, with gift boxes and certificates. From GLD's pages on November 2, 2026:
- Custom items, final sale products and licensed league pieces can't be returned or exchanged.
- Moissanite product pages say: "There are NO returns/cancellations on Moissanite items."
- Shipping costs aren't refunded. Refunds take up to 7 to 10 business days to appear.
How we compare: our moissanite pieces are final sale too, so check your size with our tennis chain size guide first. Our Silver & 18k Vermeil and CZ line pieces can be returned within 14 days of delivery for a refund (15% restocking fee) or within 90 days for an exchange or store credit with no fee. GLD doesn't charge a restocking fee on refunds; we do.
How long does GLD take to ship?
GLD's shipping policy says orders process in 1 to 2 business days, and orders before 1 PM EST on weekdays ship the same day for most paid options. Then US delivery takes:
- Economy (free): 6 to 11 business days
- Express: 3 business days
- Superfast: 2 business days
Orders of $599 or more need a signature. GLD ships to more than 220 countries, and international customers pay their own duties and taxes. GLD's legit page mentions "3–5 business days average" for free US shipping, so the policy page is stricter than the blog. Go by the policy.
Our in-stock US orders ship from our US warehouse and arrive in 1 to 2 business days. Orders placed before 2pm ET on a business day ship the same day, with free tracked delivery on orders over $100.
