Baguette Tennis Chain Guide: Sizes, Prices and What to Check

A baguette tennis chain is a tennis chain set with baguette-cut stones: long, rectangular stones with straight step-cut facets, instead of the round stones in a classic tennis chain. The result is a sharper, more geometric line of ice that flashes in broad bright bands rather than tiny sparkles.

Our 6mm moissanite baguette tennis chain is one of our 15 best-selling pieces over the last 30 days, so we get asked about this style a lot. This guide covers how a baguette tennis chain differs from a round one, which width and length to pick, what one costs today, what else ranks for the term, and the checks to make before you buy one from anyone, us included.

Key takeaways

  1. Baguette means rectangular step-cut stones. They give a cleaner, flatter, "hall of mirrors" flash; round stones give more scattered sparkle.
  2. Step cuts show the inside of a stone more clearly than round cuts, so stone quality matters more on a baguette chain than on a round one.
  3. 6mm is the most common men's width. It is noticeable without being a statement chain like a 10mm clustered piece.
  4. Most men wear a 6mm baguette tennis chain at 20 or 22 inches. 18 inches sits high on the neck.
  5. The stone decides the price and whether it passes a diamond tester. Moissanite passes a standard tester; cubic zirconia (CZ) doesn't.
  6. Measure before you order. Our moissanite pieces are final sale, so the length has to be right first time.

What is a baguette tennis chain?

A tennis chain is a flexible line of identical stone-set links. In a classic tennis chain each link holds one round brilliant-cut stone, so it reads as a row of bright dots.

A baguette tennis chain uses baguette-cut stones in each link. A baguette is a rectangle with a flat top and rows of long, parallel facets down the sides. That cut is called a step cut, and it is the same family of cuts as the emerald cut. Because the facets are long and straight, a baguette throws light back in bigger flashes, so the chain looks crisp and linear rather than glittery.

You will see it sold as a baguette tennis necklace, baguette chain, baguette diamond chain or baguette cut tennis chain. In men's jewelry they usually mean the same thing. Some listings mix baguettes with small round stones in each link; others are all baguettes. Check the close-up photos to see which one you are buying.

Baguette tennis chain vs round tennis chain

Both are tennis chains and both are built the same way. The cut of the stone changes the look, how forgiving the stones are and, on some pieces, the price.

Feature Round tennis chain Baguette tennis chain
Stone shape Round brilliant cut Rectangular step cut
How it shines Lots of small sparkles from every angle Fewer, bigger flashes; a cleaner line
Look Classic, the default tennis chain More geometric and modern; stands out from a crowd of round chains
Hides flaws Better: many facets mask small inclusions Worse: the open step-cut face shows inclusions and cloudiness more easily
Common men's widths 3mm to 6mm About 4mm to 8mm
Best worn Alone or layered Alone, or stacked with a round tennis chain for contrast

If you want the safest, most versatile chain, a round tennis chain is still the default. If you already own a round one, a baguette chain is the obvious second chain: same idea, different shape, and the two look good stacked. Our tennis chain sizes guide covers the round widths in detail.

Baguette tennis chain sizes: width and length

Width

  • 4mm to 5mm: subtle. Easy to wear every day and to layer under a pendant.
  • 6mm: the most popular men's width, and the width of our moissanite baguette chain. Clearly visible across a room, but not a chunky statement piece.
  • 7mm to 8mm and up: loud. Often built as a baguette cluster, with baguettes framed by small round stones. If you want that much presence, look at a clustered tennis chain too.

Length

A 6mm chain is wide enough that it can flip if it sits tight on a thick neck. These are the lengths we steer most men towards:

Length Where a 6mm baguette chain sits Who it suits
18 inches High on the neck, around the base Slim necks, or if you want it close
20 inches On the collarbone Most men: the safe pick
22 inches Just below the collarbone Bigger necks, a looser hang, or stacking under a shorter chain

Measure a chain you already like, or run a string around your neck where you want the chain to sit and measure the string. Our chain lengths for men guide has a full neck-size chart.

Before you order: under our refund policy as of October 31, 2026, moissanite pieces are final sale, so check the length first. If you are between two sizes, go up.

Moissanite, CZ or diamond: which stones are in it?

Baguette tennis chains are sold with three kinds of stone, and the listing title doesn't always tell you which one you are looking at.

  • Cubic zirconia (CZ): the budget option, often listed as "simulated" or "imitation" stones. It looks good new, but it is softer than moissanite, can cloud over time and does not pass a diamond tester. The step-cut face of a baguette shows that cloudiness sooner than a round stone would.
  • Moissanite: 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale and it tests positive on a standard diamond tester. Our baguette chain uses D color VVS1 moissanite and comes with a GRA report. We explain the tester question in does moissanite pass a diamond tester.
  • Natural or lab-grown diamond: priced by total carat weight. A full chain of baguette diamonds runs to many carats, so diamond versions cost many times more than moissanite.

We also sell a baguette tennis chain in our cheaper CZ line. It is a different product from the moissanite chain in this guide, titled and priced differently, and you can find it in our tennis chains collection. If any listing says "iced" or "VVS" without naming the stone, ask what the stone actually is before you buy.

How much does a baguette tennis chain cost?

These are our moissanite tennis chain prices as of October 31, 2026, taken from our live store. All three list the material as 18K white gold plating and D color VVS1 moissanite with a GRA report.

Piece Sizes and price Stone cut
6mm Moissanite Baguette Tennis Chain 18" (18.8 ct): $499.99
20" (20.9 ct): $539.99
22" (23 ct): $569.99
Baguette
6mm Moissanite Tennis Chain 18": $569.99
20": $599.99
22": $629.99
24": $659.99
Round
5mm Moissanite Tennis Chain 18": $449.99
20": $454.99
22": $459.99
24": $469.99
Round

Two things stand out. First, length moves the price: each extra inch adds links and stones, which is why the baguette chain's listed carat weight climbs from 18.8 ct at 18 inches to 23 ct at 22 inches. Second, at the same 6mm width our baguette chain currently costs $70 less than our round 6mm chain at 18 inches and $60 less at 22 inches. The baguette chain stops at 22 inches; if you want 24 inches, the round chains go one size longer.

What else ranks for "baguette tennis chain" (checked October 31, 2026)

Almost everything on page one of Google for this search right now is a product or collection page, not a guide. Here is what three of them state on their own pages as of October 31, 2026. We haven't tested their pieces, so this is what they list, not a verdict.

Brand What the page lists
OMI Jewelry A collection of 10K and 14K gold baguette diamond chains, with total weights listed from 4.61 ct to 20.00 ct, many mixing baguette and round diamonds
LANA A baguette cut diamond tennis necklace in 14K gold with natural diamonds
Zaana A baguette tennis necklace in stainless steel with 18k gold plating and imitation diamond stones, sold as waterproof with an expandable chain

Where they beat us: OMI and LANA sell solid gold with real diamonds, which we don't offer on this chain, and Zaana's stainless steel piece is sold as waterproof, while we recommend taking ours off to swim. Where we are strong: our baguette chain uses D color VVS1 moissanite with a GRA report, it costs less than our round 6mm chain at the same length, and our lifetime warranty covers loose or lost stones and fading of the finish.

How to check a baguette tennis chain before you buy

Baguettes are less forgiving than round stones, so these checks matter more on this style. They work on any brand's chain.

  1. Look straight down at the stones. A step cut is like a window. Each stone should look clear and white. Milky, gray or cloudy stones are easy to spot on a baguette, so if you see them in the photos, you will see them in person.
  2. Check the lines. Every baguette should point the same way and sit level with its neighbors. Crooked or tilted stones break the clean line that is the whole point of the style.
  3. Check the corners. Rectangular stones have corners, and corners are where chips start. Look for nicks at the ends of each stone and make sure each corner is held by the setting.
  4. Shake it gently next to your ear. Rattling means a loose stone. Send it back or claim on the warranty before it falls out.
  5. Test the clasp. A box clasp with a safety latch is the standard. Close it, tug it and make sure it doesn't pop open.
  6. Lay it flat and lift it. A good chain bends smoothly link to link and doesn't kink. Stiff spots can mean a damaged link.
  7. Check the paperwork. For moissanite, the GRA report number should look up on the GRA site. If the number doesn't come up, treat the report as fake.

Common mistakes with baguette chains

  • Judging it under one light. Baguettes look calm in flat indoor light and come alive in sun or under spotlights. Look at video or outdoor photos before you decide.
  • Assuming "baguette" means diamond. Plenty of cheaper baguette chains use CZ. Check the stone line in the listing.
  • Going too short. An 18" 6mm chain on a thick neck can flip and pinch. Size up.
  • Stacking it with another baguette chain. Two baguette chains blur together. Pair it with a round tennis chain, a Cuban link or a pendant for contrast.
  • Swimming or cleaning with chemicals. Chlorine, bleach and abrasive cleaners can damage plating, and our warranty doesn't cover chemical damage. Take it off for the pool and clean it with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush.

Baguette tennis chain: common questions

What is a baguette tennis chain?
A baguette tennis chain is a tennis chain set with rectangular, step-cut baguette stones instead of round ones. It gives a cleaner, more geometric line with bigger flashes of light than a classic round tennis chain.

Is a baguette tennis necklace the same as a baguette tennis chain?
Yes. Stores use both names for the same style. "Chain" is more common in men's jewelry and "necklace" in women's, but the construction is the same.

What size baguette tennis chain should I get?
Most men wear a 6mm baguette tennis chain at 20 or 22 inches. Pick 18 inches only if you want it close to the neck, and go up a size if you are between two.

How much is a baguette chain?
It depends on the stones. As of October 31, 2026 our 6mm moissanite baguette tennis chain costs $499.99 at 18 inches, $539.99 at 20 inches and $569.99 at 22 inches. CZ versions cost less, and natural or lab diamond versions cost far more.

Do baguette tennis chains pass a diamond tester?
Moissanite baguette chains test positive on a standard diamond tester because moissanite conducts heat like diamond. Cubic zirconia does not pass. A moissanite-specific tester will still tell moissanite from diamond.

Are baguette chains good for men?
Yes. Our 6mm moissanite baguette tennis chain is one of our best sellers, and men usually wear it alone or stacked with a round tennis chain or a Cuban link for contrast.
