Cuban Link Chain Sizes: Width and Length Chart for Men
Cuban link chain sizes come in two numbers: the width of the links in millimeters, usually 3mm to 20mm, and the length of the chain in inches, usually 16 to 30 inches. For most men the sweet spot is an 8mm to 13mm chain worn at 20 or 22 inches. Go wider or longer only if you have the frame for it or you want the chain to be the loudest thing you wear.
We sell iced moissanite Cuban chains from 8mm to 13mm, and the question we get most before someone orders is "what size should I get?" This guide gives you the width chart, the length chart, a simple way to match both to your neck and build, how iced Cubans size differently from plain ones, and the mistakes we see people make. Prices for our own Cuban chains are listed as of November 1, 2026.
Key takeaways
- Width is measured across the link in millimeters. Length is measured end to end in inches. You need to pick both.
- For a first Cuban, 8mm to 10mm is the safe width. 12mm to 14mm is a statement chain. 15mm and up is for big frames or for show.
- 20 inches sits on the collarbone and suits most men. Go to 22 inches if your neck is over about 16.5 inches or the chain is 12mm or wider.
- Wider chains need more length. A thick chain eats up space around your neck, so it sits higher than a thin chain of the same length.
- An iced Cuban reads bigger than a plain one of the same width, because the stones add height and catch light.
- Measure before you buy. Our moissanite pieces are final sale, and a chain cut down by a local jeweler is no longer covered by our warranty.
How Cuban link chain sizes are measured
Every Cuban chain listing should give you two numbers. If one is missing, ask before you buy.
- Width (mm): measured straight across one link, from one outside edge to the other. This is the number in the product title, like "10mm Cuban". It decides how bold the chain looks from the front.
- Length (inches): measured end to end with the chain laid flat, usually including the clasp. This decides where the chain sits on your chest.
There is a third number most listings skip: thickness, sometimes called height. That is how tall the link stands off your chest. A classic Miami Cuban is fairly flat. An iced Cuban is taller, because each link carries a row of set stones on top. Two 10mm chains can look quite different on the neck if one is flat and plain and the other is tall and iced.
If you want to check a chain yourself, use calipers or a ruler across the widest point of a single link. Measure the link, not the clasp. Box clasps on Cuban chains are often a little wider than the links.
Cuban link width chart: 3mm to 20mm
Width is the bigger style decision. Here is how each size reads once it is on a neck.
| Width | How it looks | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| 3mm to 5mm | Thin and quiet. Reads as an everyday chain. | Slim builds, layering under a bigger chain, wearing a pendant |
| 6mm to 7mm | Clearly a Cuban, still easy to wear daily. | A first Cuban on a slim to average build |
| 8mm to 10mm | The most popular men's range. Visible across a room without taking over. | Most men, average to broad builds |
| 11mm to 14mm | A statement chain. Heavy look, fills the space under the neck. | Broad shoulders, thicker necks, men who want the chain to be the point |
| 15mm to 20mm+ | Very loud. Can overwhelm a slim frame. | Big frames, performers, a second or third chain for nights out |
A quick check: hold a ruler against your collarbone and look in the mirror. Ten millimeters is a little under half an inch, and that is about as wide as most men go for an everyday chain. At Adamans, our 10mm Cuban was the best-selling Cuban chain in our store over the last 30 days.
Cuban link chain length chart
Length decides where the chain lands. These positions assume an average adult male neck of around 15 to 16 inches and a mid-width chain. Thicker necks and wider chains both push the chain higher.
| Length | Where it sits | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 16 inches | Tight to the base of the neck, close to a choker | Very slim necks, or a short chain in a layered stack |
| 18 inches | At the base of the neck, just above the collarbone | Slim necks, thinner chains, wearing it close |
| 20 inches | On the collarbone | Most men. The safest single pick. |
| 22 inches | Just below the collarbone | Necks over about 16.5 inches, chains 12mm and wider, a looser hang |
| 24 inches | Upper chest | Big frames, wearing it over a shirt, the longer chain in a stack |
| 26 to 30 inches | Mid chest and lower | Hanging a pendant low, or a deliberately long hip-hop look |

What size Cuban link chain should I get?
Start with your neck, then pick a width that fits your build. Measure your neck with a soft tape, or wrap a piece of string where you want the chain to sit and measure the string against a ruler.
| Your neck | Length to start with | Width to start with |
|---|---|---|
| Under 15 inches | 18 or 20 inches | 6mm to 8mm |
| 15 to 16.5 inches | 20 inches | 8mm to 10mm |
| 16.5 to 18 inches | 22 inches | 10mm to 13mm |
| Over 18 inches | 22 or 24 inches | 12mm and up |
Two rules sit on top of that table:
- Add length as you add width. A 13mm chain takes up more room around your neck than a 5mm chain, so it sits higher at the same length. If you are moving up past 12mm, go up one length too.
- If you are between two lengths, go longer. A chain that is a little long still looks right. A chain that is too short pinches, flips and looks like a mistake.
Wearing a pendant changes things. A pendant pulls the chain into a V and drops it lower. Most men wear a pendant on a 20 to 24 inch chain, and a thinner width so the pendant stays the focus.
Iced vs plain Cuban: why the same size looks different
A plain Cuban is polished metal links. An iced Cuban has stones set across the top of each link. Even at the same width, they are not the same size on the neck.
- Iced links stand taller. The stones and their settings add height, so the chain looks chunkier and catches more light. An iced 10mm can read like a plain 12mm.
- Iced chains are stiffer. More metal and stone in each link means less drape. That is another reason to go a size longer on a wide iced chain.
- Carat weight rises with length. Longer means more links and more stones. On our 8mm moissanite Cuban, the 18 inch has 20.1 carats total, the 20 inch 22.4 carats and the 22 inch 24.6 carats.
There is also a middle option: a plain Cuban with an iced clasp. You get the clean look of polished links with one flash of stones at the clasp. Our 10mm Cuban moissanite clasp chain is built this way. We compare the two looks in more detail in plain vs iced out Cuban link chains.

Notice the 8mm costs more than the 13mm. Width alone doesn't set the price of an iced Cuban. Stone count, how the stones are set and how much work goes into each link matter more. Compare the stones and the build, not only the millimeters.
Tester tip: moissanite tests positive on most standard handheld diamond testers, while cubic zirconia doesn't. If you are comparing iced Cubans from different brands, that is a quick way to see what you are paying for. We explain how it works in does moissanite pass a diamond tester.

How to measure for a Cuban link chain at home
- Use a chain you already like. Lay it flat, close the clasp and measure end to end. That number is your length.
- No chain? Use string. Put on the shirt you will usually wear the chain with. Hang a piece of string around your neck so it falls where you want the chain. Mark it, lay it flat and measure.
- Check the width with a ruler. Hold a ruler flat against your chest at the collarbone. Picture 8mm, 10mm and 13mm side by side. Most men are surprised how wide 13mm already looks.
- Add for width. If the chain you are buying is much wider than the one you measured, add an inch or two to the length.
Buying a matching bracelet? Wrist sizing works differently. Our Cuban link bracelet guide has the wrist chart and widths.
Common Cuban link sizing mistakes
- Buying the width you saw on someone else. A 14mm chain on a big frame looks balanced. The same chain on a slim frame can look like a costume. Match width to your own build.
- Keeping the length when you go wider. If you loved your 20 inch 5mm chain and order a 13mm at 20 inches, it will sit noticeably higher and tighter.
- Going too short. 18 inches on an average or thick neck is the most common sizing regret. When in doubt, go 20 or 22.
- Ignoring the clasp. Big box clasps add stiffness at the back of the neck. On very wide chains that can make the chain sit a little higher.
- Planning to cut it down later. Shortening a Cuban means cutting links and rejoining the chain. Under our lifetime warranty as of November 1, 2026, cutting, resizing or repair by anyone other than Adamans is not covered, so get the length right first.
Before you order: under our refund policy as of November 1, 2026, moissanite pieces are final sale, so check your width and length first. Every piece is still covered by our lifetime warranty for manufacturing defects, breakage during normal wear, fading or tarnishing of the finish, and loose or lost stones.
Cuban link chain sizes: common questions
What is the most popular Cuban link chain size?
For men, 8mm to 10mm at 20 or 22 inches is the most common pick. At Adamans, our 10mm Cuban was our best-selling Cuban chain over the last 30 days.
What size Cuban link chain should I get?
Start with 20 inches if your neck is 15 to 16.5 inches and 22 inches if it is bigger. Pick 8mm to 10mm for an everyday chain and 12mm or more if you want a statement piece, and go one length up for wide chains.
Is an 8mm Cuban link too big?
No. 8mm is a mid-size men's Cuban. It is clearly visible but still easy to wear every day, and it suits slim to broad builds.
How long should a Cuban link chain be?
Most men wear a Cuban at 20 inches, where it sits on the collarbone. Go to 22 or 24 inches for a thick neck, a chain 12mm or wider, or a pendant.
How is the width of a Cuban link measured?
Width is measured straight across one link, outside edge to outside edge, in millimeters. Measure a link, not the clasp, since box clasps are often a little wider.
Can you shorten a Cuban link chain?
A jeweler can remove links, but it means cutting and rejoining the chain. On an Adamans piece, cutting or resizing by anyone other than us is not covered by our lifetime warranty, so choose the right length when you order.
